Car play mat for my three year old

My present for my little boy’s third birthday.

To make this gift I used a textile pen, textile paints, a sewing machine, and books for inspiration. I painted and drew on a white calico cloth, lined with two layers of recycled sheeting.

Rather than making a traditional type of themed mat, 

I used references like a Japanese pond and wooden bridge, 

a French bakery, 

and the circular middle part is also like a puzzle enabling my boy to assemble his train set as well as using the mat to play with his little cars,

drive them around and park them.
